'Psychopomp' is the debut album from Japanese Breakfast, the project of Michelle Zauner, recorded in Eugene, Oregon, while she cared for her mother who was suffering from cancer. Released by Yellow K in April 2016 and reissued internationally by Dead Oceans, the record takes its name from the figure that guides souls to the afterlife and condenses grief into twenty-five minutes of lo-fi dream pop: hazy synthesizers, shimmering guitars, and choruses that sound like a lost eighties cassette. The cover art is a photograph of her mother in Seoul, the same story that Zauner later expanded upon in the book 'Crying in H Mart'.
