Gaucho is the seventh album by Steely Dan and the conclusion of their first phase as a band, released in 1980 after two years of obsessive sessions, over forty session musicians, and a now-legendary studio perfectionism. Donald Fagen and Walter Becker took their fusion of jazz, rock, and soul to its most polished and sophisticated point here, with lyrics that portray decadent West Coast characters with irony and surgical coldness. It won the Grammy for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical and delivered standards like 'Hey Nineteen' and 'Babylon Sisters'.
